This autobiography covers General Powell's life and military career. The book begins with his birth in Harlem and covers his 35 years of Army service including the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and his time serving as the first African American Joint Chief of Staff.

- A hardcover Taiwanese edition of General Colin Powell's autobiography, My American Journey (Wo dì meiguó zhi lu), the second in a two-volume translation set, written by General Colin L. Powell. The hardcover book has a glossy dark green background and features a color portrait of General Powell on the front and a sepia-toned portrait of Powell as a young boy on the back. Above the Taiwanese recommendation from President Chen Shui-bian is a square caption box with bronze text inside of it, which reads: [THE LIFE STORY / OF A YOUNG BOY / FROM THE BRONX / WHO GEW UP / TO LIVE THE / AMERICAN DREAM]. There are several glossy black-and-white supplemental photographs throughout the book, which is numbered from page 555 to page 1016. The inner front and back covers feature a brown marbling design, and the jacket design matches that of the book. The inside of the jacket is white.
