- Description
- A signed red guest book from the Powell residence in Northern Virginia, owned by General Colin L. Powell and Alma J. Powell. This custom guestbook is constructed of a faux leather material over thick cardboard. It has a wide spine embellished with lines of gold ink. The front and back covers are bordered in a thin gold ink line with the front cover having an additional gold ink inner frame-like border, and the home address printed in the center. At each corner of the inner border is a decorative angled symbol. The inside front and back covers, as well as the last pages, feature paisley swirls of light blue, red, and white. The inner border of the book is decorated with a repeating floral-like pattern of gold foil. There are several notable guest signatories, to include President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, Ehud Barak, the 10th Prime Minister of Israel on March 22, 1995, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, February 14, 2006. At the top of one page is a note about the swearing in of General Powell and Alma’s son, Michael Kevin Powell, dated “9 Nov 97” – six days after Michael’s appointment by President Bill Clinton, to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
