Etta Moten Barnett served as chairman for the United Nations (UN) International Decade for Women's Committee, representing The Links , Inc. The first UN Women's Conference was held in Mexico City in 1975.
Description
This is an international women’s conference name badge belong to Etta Moten Barnett. It is a pink rectangular piece of paper with black text. Across the top in Spanish it reads “ Tribuna Mudial del / Ano Internacional de la / Mujer.” Under this in smaller text it reads “Mexico, 19 Junio -2 Julio 1975.” In the top left corner of the card is a graphic in black ink of an abstracted female face. It consists of an oval with a female symbol of a circle on top of a cross as the eye and mouth. In the upper right corner are two over lapping circles with the letters “O / N / G / O” in them. In the center of the card is hand typed text that reads “ETTA MOTEN BARNETT.” At the bottom is hand typed text that reads “THE LINKS INC. NAT’L COUNCIL OF / NEGRO WOMEN, WOMEN’S BOARD UNIV. / OF CHICAGO.” In the bottom left corner is a handwritten number in ink “0617.” In the bottom right corner is a signature handwritten in ink “Etta M. Barnett.” There is pre-printed text in Spanish on the back of the card, and a metal pin for fastening the badge. The badge is housed in a clear plastic sleeve.
